Hello there. My name’s Wes Ball. I’m a partner at a small animation and visual effects shop called, OddBall Animation. It’s fulfilling work, but only a part of the plan towards making movies.
This site is where I occasionally post work – to share, discuss, make fun of, whatever.
I’ll work on adding info to this page later.
Hope to see you around. Drop me a line.

Hi Wes,
I’m not sure if you still remember me, but I came in one time in your office (Herzog & Co.) to talk to about your work and my interest to assist with your motion design work. Are you still with Herzog? I heard they’re looking for Jr. Motion Graphic person? Know anything about that?
Thanks!
Ivan

Hey Wes, I came across A Work In Progress while hooning around Youtube looking for good animation. My interest was severely piqued so I linked my way along to this site. I’ve just been checking out everything and watching the making ofs. Fantastic work man. I really like what you’re doing and watching ISOH come along is really exciting. I really can’t understate how much I loved the making ofs, haha. That’s the stuff I live for. An artist deconstructing his own genius. Gives me a better understanding of the mind behind the art, which in turn makes the art all the more deep and interesting.
Keep up the good work man.

Rob, you’re right. The OddBall logo was all particular. It was the first time I really dug into that plugin. Pretty cool. Plus since it’s in 3D space, I set up two cameras spaced a little apart… set to go for Stereo 3D!

Hey. Found you on YouTube and I gotta say I was incredibly impressed by the quality of your animations.
I was wondering about ISOH. Is it going to be a real movie some day, or is it just going to be a short film? I really hope that this will be a long movie one day.

@Chris
With any luck, it’ll be a real movie one day. I’m in the process of making that happen right now… fingers crossed “Hollywood” feels the same way you do.

Wes-
Came across A Work in Progress on Youtube.com. While I think your animation is top-notch I was actually impressed with the piece as a whole. I am a struggling filmmaker myself, and it is truly inspiring to see a fellow indie film maker create such works. The story, characters, pacing, everything was very impressive. I wish I could say that I had some kind of connections but alas I do not. The only thing I can offer at this point is to be your fan. It is obvious that you have something special and I can’t wait to see you make it to the “show”. Good luck with everything.

Hey Wes, I was just checking out “A Work In Progress” and felt it was ridiculously honest and good (that’s a compliment). So I am a composer studying at Columbia College Chicago, and I would love to score that film. It looks like you used a pre-existing score, right? Or was that original music? Anyway, I’d love to show you my music and see if you would be interested (if nothing more than just for my own enjoyment and practice). Thanks

Hello Wes.
I was wondering about a movie you wrote and directed called Jacob: The Movie. I haven’t been able to find it at all online, and I’m dying to see it, the story sounds pretty awesome. Any way I can?
Thanks, Dan

Hello. I was just looking around on Youtube and happened to come across “A Work in Progress.” I really l oved it. What I loved most was your textures used. They were realistic but looked almost cartoon by your use of modeling the characters. I really love how animators can manage that. I also watched the making of the scene with the spaceship crashing into earth. Watching that was very useful. What I liked most was how you curved the image plane and had multiple tree layers to give a sense of depth. That was very clever to do. I am currently in college studying to become a 3D animator myself. I always love to watch great animation for inspiration. Your animation is truly an inspiration. Can’t wait to see more! Keep up the amazing work!

Wow, I didn’t realize I had so many comments here. Email notify was off!
@Ryan thanks for the kind words man. Right back at you.
@Adam will get ahold of you.
@Daniel. Jacob is not online right now. It was my first real attempt at a complete short film. It was really ambitious and worked with the best people in school. One day I might try to get it online. Just curious… how did you hear about it?
@jess awesome! Thanks for watching the making ofs. Maybe I should do more. Good luck on the animation.
